You may have noticed that Vienna’s commercial area has a vibrant new look. Along Maple Avenue and Church Street, you’re greeted with flowers adorning the sidewalks, thanks to the Town’s beautification initiative to bring fresh blooms to the streets of downtown Vienna.
You’re invited to explore this commercial streetscape by participating in our new, self-guided ‘Vienna in Bloom’ Streetscape Tour. Vienna’s Economic Development and Parks and Recreation departments created this tour so community members can visit the 36 different types of flowers and learn more about the economic impact of these beautification efforts.
The streetscape renovation concept was first presented to Town Council on June 20, 2023. Since then, 81 planters have been installed along Maple Avenue and 41 planters have been installed along Church Street, ensuring a colorful landscape across all seasons. The Town’s project partners, LSG Architecture and Merrifield Garden Center, helped bring this streetscape vision to life.
The streetscape tour is an opportunity to showcase this collaboration and investment. You can enjoy the tour on your own schedule, whenever you have a few minutes to walk the route. The tour brochure, which includes a detailed map and directory, is available here.
The brochure details the following:
The blooms
- Learn exactly which flowers you’re seeing in the ground, labeled by both their formal (botanical) and common names.
The businesses
- Explore local businesses along the streetscape route and notice where we’ve marked ‘Restaurants’ and ‘Retail’.
Other points of interest
- Note other iconic Vienna spaces including the Washington & Old Dominion Trail and Town Green Plaza.
Enjoy the streetscape tour at your own pace and on your own schedule. (Pro tip: Go in the early morning or evening to beat the summer heat!)
The tour route starts and ends at the Freeman Store & Museum, following Church Street, Lawyers Road, Maple Avenue, and Mill Street.
This is also a perfect chance to check out some Vienna businesses. There are 54 businesses located along the tour route, and even more just a short walk away.
If you are looking for a fun way to spend a day in Vienna, the self-guided walking tour is for you.
